Eight ceremonies will be taking place over two days - Thursday 16 and Friday 17 December. Many members of staff are involved in making these occasions so celebratory and special for our students. Thank you to everyone.
Honorary Degree
During the 12.00noon ceremony on Thursday, Professor John Allen will be presented for the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by Professor Michael Fulford, Department of Archaeology.
Emeritus Professor John Allen taught at the University for over 50 years until his retirement in 2001. He continues his association with the University as a Visiting Professor in Archaeology.
Alumnus of the Year
Beth Morgan, International cricketer will be presented for the Alumnus of the Year award 2010 by Dr Graham Shafer at the 12.00noon ceremony on Friday 17.
In 2005, a momentous England v Australia Ashes test series captured the hearts and minds of the nation. Cricket had never been so popular and it wasn't just the men wowing the crowds. The English Women's Cricket Team put on a tremendous display, beating the Australians in a series for the first time in 42 years. A series win that alumna Beth Morgan (BSc Psychology, 2005) is extremely proud to have played a major part in.
An established member of the England team, Beth graduated with a first-class psychology degree from the University in 2005 and is delighted to be awarded the Alumnus of the Year title for 2010. "I thoroughly enjoyed my three years at Reading and feel that I graduated with all the skills needed to succeed in the world today", she said.
"Not only did I gain an excellent psychology degree which will stand me in good stead for my future career, I also grew as a person in many ways and feel I developed many crucial and transferable life skills. I am very grateful for the support of all the staff at the University who encouraged me to pursue my cricket career and helped me to balance that with my studies."
