Cedar Room closed for refurbishment
Tuesday, 04 January 2011
The Cedar Room, located next to Park House, has closed for refurbishment from Friday 17 December 2010 until the start of the autumn term 2011.
Once reopened, it will provide the same service as Park Eat currently offers, which comprises three distinct serveries: a deli bar serving salads, baguettes and paninis; a traditional servery offering hot meals such as lasagne and curry; and a fusion-style chef's theatre counter, where stir fries, pasta dishes and flame grilled meats are cooked to order in front of customers. There will also be a coffee shop area, perfect for informal meetings, which will be open throughout the day. In addition, work will be undertaken to improve the acoustics in the venue.
Where can we go whilst the Cedar Room is closed?
Whilst the Cedar Room is closed, there are a number of available alternatives:
- Park Eat (next to Windsor Hall) provides another alternative, offering full breakfast, lunch and evening service.
- Cafés: all cafés on campus will offer a wide range of hot and cold snacks, speciality coffees and confectionery.
In addition, Park House will re-open on Monday 31 January 2011 offering breakfast, lunch and an evening bar menu, with no membership restrictions.
The bar has undergone some cosmetic improvements, including reupholstering of the chairs and a treatment to improve the quality of the floorboards. The menu and service will remain the same, but behind the scenes the kitchen has been modernised, to accommodate the high quality food produced in the Central Kitchen.
Also a new a la carte dining facility, Blandford's is due to open on the same day, in the old newspaper lounge and breakfast room on the ground floor of Park House. This will replace the Orangerie in Black Horse House and will be bookable for staff wishing to take visitors for a private but informal lunch or dinner.
Keep your eye on the Staff Portal for details of an open day in the new year, where we plan to showcase the new facilities at 'Eat and Drink at Park House' (comprising the Park House bar and Blandford's), especially for staff.
