'This is an opportunity not to be missed by research staff as it is a great way for them to become more involved in the research staff community.'
On Friday 11 February, the Research Staff Committee is hosting a conference for research staff at the University, which will examine key issues that are often faced in this community.
The conference, which is being supported by the Centre for Staff Training and Development (CSTD), is entitled 'Research Staff Challenges: Career and Community', and aims to enable research staff to develop their own responses to these issues.
There are a number of talks with themes including ‘what makes a successful researcher', 'inter-disciplinary research' and 'promoting women's careers in Science, Engineering and Technology', as well as a choice of seminars from a range of internal and external speakers.
Dr Justin Hutchence, Research Staff Development Manager, said: "This is an opportunity not to be missed by research staff as it is a great way for them to become more involved in the research staff community. They will be able to network with other research staff and discuss possible collaboration, as well as gain new skills to help with career management.
"The conference also offers a chance to reflect on career development with input from experts, and to develop skills that will aid in becoming better researchers. Attendees will also hear from the University on how it is supporting them and be updated on the latest issues in research and researcher development."
This event is open to research staff on grades six and seven though other interested parties may wish to attend. To find out more and to book a place at the conference interested staff will need to fill in the form on the Research Staff web pages by 2 February: http://www.reading.ac.uk/rstaff-news.aspx.
