The results of the University's 9th annual meteorology photography competition that took place in 2010 have just been announced. The competition was open to all members of the University, and attracted a large number of entries.
This year, entries were divided into three categories: ‘Weather and optical phenomena' and ‘Sunsets and sunrises', and ‘snow and ice'. Entries consisted of photos taken both in the UK and in various different locations around the world. The winning photos were voted for by the members of the Meteorology department.
The winner of the ‘Sunsets and sunrises' category was Jessica Satchell with "Sunset on a Lake" taken in Lazise, Lake Garda, Italy.
The ‘Weather and optical phenomena' category was won by Edmund Har's image, "Halo" taken in Kumasi, Ghana.
The ‘Snow and ice' category was won by Delia Salter with her photograph, "Frosted Rosehip" taken in Caversham, Reading. "I am delighted to have won the Snow and Ice category of the competition," said Delia, "Winter is an especially good time for capturing patterns and textures in the natural world, even with just a small compact camera."
