Help RUSU make a new greenhouse for the nursery

Tuesday, 01 February 2011

child gardening

RUSU need your two litre plastic bottles to help them build a 'green greenhouse'.

As part of Reading University Students' Union's (RUSU) Go Green Week, which begins on Monday 7 February, students are hoping to collect as many plastic bottles as possible in order to build a new greenhouse for the Little Learners Nursery.

Approximately 2,500 two litre plastic drinks bottles are needed for this project, so if you have any you can give to help them achieve their goal please drop them in the specially labelled wheelie bins in RUSU or the SportsPark.

The bottles will be stacked together in rows, and attached to a timber frame in order to form a 'green greenhouse'. This will enable children who attend the nursery to learn about how to grow their own vegetables and have a go themselves.

The greenhouse will be built next Tuesday 8 February, so please make your bottle donations before this date.

The theme of RUSU's Go Green Week was decided by the students themselves, and they were keen to focus on recycling, waste reduction and green ways to save money. As well as the 'green greenhouse' project, environmental activities throughout the week include: 'Green Dragon's Den', where students can pitch their green ideas to a panel of Dragons who will vote on their favourites, and 'Vintage Day', where students will be encouraged to reuse and rework their old clothes and then show them off in 3Sixty in the evening.
