Host family

Chinese teacher of English in conversation with her host family

The Centre pays very competitive rates, although this opportunity offers much more in terms of the mutual learning gained from sharing different cultures and making new friends.

The National Centre for Language and Literacy at the University is moving from Bulmershe to the London Road campus. The centre offers courses for students, teachers and other professionals from all over the world, but mainly from China. They come for periods ranging from two weeks to seven months.

The centre is looking for friendly home-stay placements, within walking distance of the London Road campus, for international students and professionals.

Most course participants are either teachers of English, or university administrators. Their levels of English range from basic to advanced, but all benefit from the experience of living in a friendly home environment where they can improve their language skills and experience British culture at first hand.

Hosts provide bed and breakfast and allow their guests use of the kitchen to make their evening meal. The Centre pays very competitive rates, although as many hosts agree, this opportunity offers much more in terms of the mutual learning gained from sharing different cultures and making new friends.
