University WomenÔÇÖs Lightweight 8 team with their cox, Nick Barnet

Once again this year, there were a number of outstanding performances by the University's Boat Club in the recent British universities and Colleges (BUCS) Regatta. Reading topped the medals table with nine gold, one silver and six bronze.
This year's Regatta attracted a huge number of entries from 65 universities for the three day event which was be held at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham over the recent long Bank Holiday weekend.
Just one of Reading University Boat Club's (RUBC) notable achievements came from the Women's Lightweight 8 who beat the Cambridge University crew that just a few weeks earlier had won the annual Oxford v Cambridge boat race. Reading won by a convincing 14 seconds.
RUBC girls won all three quad events (both Champ and Intermediate Heavyweight and the lightweight quad) with the RUBC Women's Quad beating a very strong Durham University crew in the last hundred metres of the race. While RUBC lightweight women won five out of a possible seven of their events.
Lottie Burgess, RUBC president, won the Champ lightweight single for the third year in a row, and finished her last BUCS regatta with a stash of four gold medals!
Ally Brooks, Captain of the RUBC women's squad, and Caragh McMurtry won the pair's race, beating some very strong opposition on the way, and showing their boat skills in the testing windy conditions.
Special congratulations to the Women's Heavyweight 8, who medalled for the first time in RUBC's history - coming home with a very pleasing bronze medal.
The lightweight men raced very well in the quad event and were rewarded with a bronze medal.
The heavyweight men also came away with a bronze in the quad and showed really good racing, beating very strong Durham and Newcastle crews.

The support the University, the Students Union, the Friends of the University and our alumni have provided this year has been outstanding, and that combined with the hard work from the students has resulted in such a fabulous BUCS performance."
