Update on the Institute of Education move to London Road

'This project is the largest investment in an education department in the UK in recent years. As a result, we will boast facilities that will be second to none'
The conservation and refurbishment of our historic London Road campus to create a new home for the Institute of Education will be completed in December 2011 and our students will be taught there from Spring 2012. It was initially hoped that the Institute would be ready to move from its current Bulmershe Court Campus to London Road during the summer months this year and for teaching to begin there in October. However, work has taken a little longer than initially anticipated.
In the meantime, all programmes will operate as usual at Bulmershe Court which has been home to the Institute for 20 years. The University is ranked as the number one place to train primary school teachers in the country and ranked amongst the UK's top three teacher training providers. The facilities at Bulmershe are excellent and there will be no impact on the quality of the student experience due to the delay.
Professor Andy Goodwyn, Director of the Institute of Education said: "Although we will miss Bulmershe, this project is worth waiting for and the prospect of returning to the original home of the Institute is very exciting. When complete, we will be training over 1,000 teachers right in the heart of Reading, with the benefit of excellent transport links to our hundreds of partner schools locally and across the region.
"This project is the largest investment in an education department in the UK in recent years. As a result, we will boast facilities that will be second to none, an attractive campus with lots of green space set in a central location with good communications."
