'The day has been excellent - a great opportunity to do something different and to remind us to take some time out'
Hundreds of members of staff visited the ‘Take a break' events at Greenlands and Whiteknights in June. Feedback from those that attended showed that ‘Take a Break' was an overwhelming success and very much appreciated by so many.
"The day has been excellent - a great opportunity to do something different and to remind us to take some time out," said one member of staff. "An excellent concept and day - wish I'd not left it so late to book things so that I could have attended more," said another.
Hundreds of you also signed up to the personal 10,000 steps challenge on the day. 10,000 steps is the equivalent of around 5 miles and burns between 300 and 400 calories.
There is still a chance to sign up, once you have, you will receive a free pedometer that tracks steps so that you know how many steps you have taken each day. Clip the pedometer firmly to your belt or waistband, and it will measure every step you take. You might find that you walk almost 10,000 steps a day already, or that you walk less than you think. Whatever your results, knowing how far you can walk in a day will help motivate you. Sign up to the 10,000 steps challenge by contacting cstd@reading.ac.uk
Don't forget to keep ‘taking a break' away from your desk once a day and visit the ‘supporting you' pages on the website - see the tab at the top of this page - where you will find a summary of all the benefits available to University of Reading staff.
