Farewell Vice-Chancellor
Friday, 29 July 2011
The University bids a fond farewell to its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gordon Marshall today - Friday 29 July. Professor Marshall leaves the University after almost nine years to take up the post of Director of the Leverhulme Trust.
Professor Marshall joined the University in January 2003, the same year that he received a CBE for his services to economic and social science.
"I would like say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who has contributed to the success of the University during my tenure and filled my nine years at Reading with such kindness and generosity; said Professor Marshall.
"I wish the University every success for the future and am confident that Reading will thrive under new leadership."
Professor Tony Downes has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1 August 2011 until such times as a successor to Professor Marshall is formally installed.
Professor Downes has, for the past four years, held the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Reading, with responsibility for planning and operational issues throughout the University.
