If you would like to make contact with your Faculty Placement & Development Officer or find out more please contact SEECC
On the 1 August, the Careers Advisory Service was replaced by the Student Employment, Experience and Careers Centre (SEECC). This new service has a greater focus on supporting departments and schools in developing placement activities and resources for their students.
The aim of this new focus is to complement degree programmes and to maximise the chances of our students finding graduate level jobs when they leave us by enhancing their work-related experience while they are here.
Although the fledgling service is just two months old, a great deal of work has been undertaken to ensure that the University is ready to meet its commitments to offering all students a work-related placement and development opportunity. More about the progress made by the new service can be found on the SEECC website including news of SEECC's new Head of Service, Jane Standley, who starts her role on 17 October.
Key changes include:
- Placement & Development Officers from SEECC have been allocated to each Faculty, and initial contact made with schools regarding support for placement activity
- SEECC has responsibility for the running of three important schemes, the Summer Employment Experience & Discovery (SEED) scheme, the Reading Experience and Development (RED) Award and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP)
- The Student Employment Projects Officer, based in SEECC, is responsible for developing our Job Shop and on-campus student and graduate employment opportunities
- SEECC still offers a daily drop-in service for students, however, many more services will be delivered on a group, rather than individual, basis
- There is a greater focus on providing opportunities and support for current students and new graduates (i.e. those seeking advice in the initial months after graduation) and not on supporting those who left before 2011
- SEECC continues to run on-campus employer presentations and fairs, with 60+ employers already confirmed for the Autumn Careers and Placements Fair on 26 October
- In October, SEECC will be launching a new, sophisticated Careers events, opportunities and bookings system (Target CONNECT) to help students manage their career planning and gain access to a wide range of job and placement opportunities.
