'Thousands of people visited the University's exhibition, which was awarded second place in the ÔÇÿBest trade exhibit' category.'
This year the University of Reading's exhibition at the Royal County of Berkshire Show received an award from the show's organisers, who were impressed with the warm welcome given by staff and the fantastic array of interactive activities on offer.
Thousands of people visited the University's exhibition, which was awarded second place in the ‘Best trade exhibit' category. For the third consecutive year, the University showcased some of our internationally recognised departments, this time with an interactive stand displaying the history of British bread making. Visitors enjoyed exploring the processes involved in bread making through hands-on activities and were able to talk to staff about the University's work in the areas of agriculture, food and nutrition.
The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) was also at the Show, displaying their Archers exhibition, commemorating 60 years of the popular BBC Radio 4 programme. The exhibition, which will be on display at MERL until 22 December, offers a unique opportunity for Archers' listeners to explore how the changing world of agriculture has been reflected throughout the programme's six decades.
At the show, younger visitors enjoyed learning about and practicing some of the sound effects used on the radio programme, and members of The Archers team including Tim Bentinck (aka David Archer) were also on hand to chat with fans and answer their questions.
Fiona Blair, Directorate of Corporate Relations and Events, said: "We were delighted to be at the Royal County of Berkshire Show again this year and are really pleased that the efforts of all of our staff and volunteers were recognised with this award."
