New look for the Pepper Lane entrance

Pepper Lane entrance

Current planting at the Pepper Lane entrance

Beech hedging and lime trees will rejeuvinate the entrance

The University Grounds Team have begun work on re-landscaping the Pepper lane entrance to the Whiteknights campus.

This planting was very kindly donated some time ago by the Friends of the University to celebrate the anniversary of the granting of our Royal Charter.

Shrubberies have a life of span of 10-15 years before they are over-mature and the current planting has reached that phase.

The design of the new planting will produce a less congested approach to the landscape. The team will be planting native beech hedging to screen fences and block desire lines, a total of 14 small leaved lime trees (Tilia cordata Rancho) either side of the entrance and turfing/seeding areas to produce grass areas.

Under the University signs a small amount of more ornamental planting will be established to give further, all-year interest for passers-by on this busy entrance.

The first part of this work has removed the unwanted vegetation. Diggers will then remove the stumps. The area will be levelled in readiness for the trees and hedges to be planted.
