The Friends of Harris Garden have recently appointed Jenny Halstead as Artist- In-Residence to paint and sketch in the garden throughout the year.
Jenny works in oil, pastel and watercolour and enjoys figurative and landscape studies. She is a well-known local artist who set up the popular Whiteknights Studio Trail over ten years ago and who remains co-ordinator and exhibitor to date.
Jenny said, ‘I'm delighted to be appointed to work in the Harris Garden. I've known it for many years and it's a lovely space in which to work.
‘I aim to record seasonal changes through the year, unusual plants and the development of the Harris Garden, but what I'm really looking forward to is capturing the essence of the garden and the people who give their time to work there.'
Ann Derbyshire, Secretary to the Friends group said, ‘This is an exciting new project for our group. Jenny creates beautiful work and we are very pleased that an artist of her experience and calibre has agreed to be our Artist-In-Residence. We are really looking forward to seeing what she will produce over the coming year with us.'
Jenny is also an experienced tutor and was recently elected a Member of the Pastel Society UK and a member of the Federation of British Artists. She will be running painting and sketching sessions for people interested in having a go themselves.
The Harris Garden is situated in the South East corner of Whiteknights campus. It is managed by the University's Grounds staff with active support from the Friends of Harris Garden. To find out more about of the Friends of the Harris garden: www.friendsoftheharrisgarden.org.uk
