The bee orchid Ophrys apifera

Each day during Green Week Whiteknights biodiversity will be publishing a new blog on a plant species from Whiteknights campus

Each day during Green Week Whiteknights biodiversity will be publishing a student authored blog on a plant species from the Whiteknights campus.

We have over 400 plants species growing on our main campus including biodiverse grassland around the lake and a rich woodland flora in the Wilderness.

Recently rediscovered on campus, sprouting through building works is the exotic bee orchid Ophrys apifera, that looks just like pink-winged bumblebees on a stalk, for example.

The blog aims to bring together University staff, students and local residents to share their biodiversity knowledge.

To share you knowledge of flowers, trees and plants you have discovered on campus or to find out some of the secrets of our award-winning green space log onto the Whiteknights Biodiversity blog.
