With only a few weeks until Christmas, we have put together a handy guide to all of the upcoming festive events for staff that are taking place around the University for you to put in your diary.
Christmas shopping at MERL
From now until it closes for Christmas on 22 December, the Museum of English Rural Life are offering a 10% discount to all University staff in their gift shop. Just take along some form of ID (payslip, library card, headed note paper from your department etc.) to obtain your discount.
The shop has a range of unique and reasonably priced gifts that include bespoke MERL shopping bags and tea towels; locally sourced honey, beeswax candles and hand creams; hand knitted Christmas sheep to decorate your tree; and packs of charity Christmas cards. For children there are traditional, wooden toys from Yorkshire, cut out dolls from Hurst and a range of smaller toys that are ideal as stocking fillers.
Opening hours: 9-5pm Tuesday to Friday; 2-4.30pm Saturday and Sunday. Cash, cheques and card payments all accepted.
Tuesday 6 December
Fairtrade Christmas fayre
12-2pm, Palmer foyer
Come along to the University's annual Festive Fairtrade Fayre. Buy your Christmas gifts from a variety of fairtrade and ethical companies, including Traidcraft, Lush and Reworked for Oxfam. Mulled wine and mince pies available, and there will be carol singing from 12.30-1pm. Organised by the Chaplaincy, People & Planet, and the Fairtrade Society.
Wednesday 7 December
A Christmas Celebration with Reading University Music Society and the Chaplaincy
6-7pm, Palmer G10
An event for all University staff and students. Music, readings and reflections prepared by Reading University Music Society and the Chaplaincy. Followed at 7pm by mulled wine, spiced apple juice and mince pies.

Sunday 11 December
University Christmas Concert
4.30pm, Great Hall, London Road
A programme of carols and Christmas music with opportunities for all to join in. Performed by the University of Reading Chamber Choir and conducted by Christopher Cipkin.
Tickets £10/£6 concessions, refreshments are included in the ticket price.

Tuesday 13 December
Christmas Lunchtime Concert
1.10-1.50pm, Palmer G10
Music for Christmas and carols for all with the University Chamber Choir.
Free - no ticket required.
Friday 16 December
‘Shrektacular!' - a Christmas pantomime presented by the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Science
4pm, Van Emden Lecture Theatre, HumSS
All members of the University are welcome to join staff and students from the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Science for some festive fun, as they star in 'Shrektacular!'.
This event is free and tickets are not required.
