Reading Professor recognised in the New Year Honours

Congratulations to Professor Dianne Berry who received an Order of the British Empire, OBE for services to scientific research in the 2012 New Year Honours list.
Professor Berry is a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) Research and Innovation Strategic Advisory Committee. The committee's role is to provide advice and guidance to the HEFCE Board on the development and implementation of policies in the area of research. She also chairs the Funding Council's REF Equality & Diversity Panel.
Professor Berry has been a member of the University since 1990 when she joined as Lecturer in Psychology. She went on to become Professor in 1997. She is currently Director of Postgraduate Studies and Researcher Development. She has previously held the posts of Dean of Social Sciences and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research.
Professor Berry said; "I am absolutely delighted with the award, and feel very honoured that my contributions have been recognised in this way. I am very grateful to the many people in the University who have supported me over the years."
Honorary Graduate, John Armitt CBE, received a knighthood for services to engineering and construction, the highest recognition among construction luminaries in the New Year Honours list. Mr Armitt is chair of the Olympic Delivery Committee and was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by the University in Summer 2008.
Mr Armitt said; "I have been privileged during my career to be supported by many people with whom I share this honour to our industry. I am especially proud of what the industry has achieved in building the Olympic Park."
