'The UTFS and ECTFS really help to raise the profile of teaching and learning, and provides recognition for the individuals who are given the award.'
The University Teaching Fellowship Scheme (UTFS) and Early Career Teaching Fellowship Scheme (ECTFS) are now open for 2012 applications.
Run by the Centre for the Development of Teaching and Learning (CDoTL), the Fellowships are prestigious awards conferred on individuals who have demonstrated individual excellence, and contributed to the development of teaching and learning within the University. The aim of the Fellowship is to support staff to further develop in this area.
The UTFS and ECTFS are open to all permanent members of staff with a teaching or teaching/learning support role, from all departments and directorates. Fellows may be full or part-time and academic or academic-related staff, on the lecturer scale, or above or equivalent. The submission deadline is Friday 24 February 2012.
Helen Hathaway, Information Skills Coordinator in the Library, was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship in 2011: "I felt very proud to receive the award - partly as a recognition of individual achievement but also on behalf of the teams within the Library who work together to deliver quality teaching to our students and staff. It has given an extra edge of authority to the voice of the Library in the teaching agenda and I hope my success will encourage other non-academic staff to apply.
"Since receiving the Fellowship I have benefitted from stimulating interaction with others in the network of Fellows, and I am also considering attending international conferences on Teaching and Learning for my future professional development."
Julian Park, Faculty of Life Sciences Director for Teaching and Learning, said: "The UTFS and ECTFS really help to raise the profile of teaching and learning, and provides recognition for the individuals who are given the award."
