All staff are invited to tea and tours of London Road
Friday, 17 February 2012
'We hope that this special event will give staff an opportunity to see how the campus has been transformed to accommodate the specific needs of the Institute's staff and students.'
The Institute of Education would like to invite all staff to a special open event at the London Road campus on Wednesday 29 February.
The historic London Road campus was founded as the central Reading home of the University over 100 years ago and originally housed the School of Education, until it moved to Bulmershe to merge with the Bulmershe College of Higher Education in 1989. Now the London Road campus has been refurbished and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to create an up to date home for the Institute.
Staff and students moved to London Road after 23 successful years at the Bulmershe campus over the Christmas vacation, and are very keen for staff from across the University to come and look at the new facilities.
The transformation, which has taken more than a year to complete, has involved the conservation of the historic facades of many of the original buildings as well as internal refurbishment to create top-quality facilities to train the teachers of tomorrow.
The cloister buildings have been updated to create dedicated spaces for the teaching of subjects such as music, PE, drama, languages, sciences, ICT, art and also the Institute's unique programme in Theatre Arts, Education and Deaf Studies (TAEDS).
Professor Andy Goodwyn, Head of the Institute, said: "We are delighted to be hosting this open afternoon and inviting all University staff along. Lots of people will have been to the London Road campus at some point, whether it be for Graduation or to attend a concert in the Great Hall, but we hope that this special event will give staff an opportunity to see how the campus has been transformed to accommodate the specific needs of the Institute's staff and students."
