Universities Week - events for all the family
Wednesday, 25 April 2012
The contribution that our universities make to society is a key focus for this year's national Universities Week, during which the University of Reading will be hosting a number of events for the local community.
Harris Garden Open Event
Sunday 29 April, 2-5.30pm
The University is giving the public an opportunity to explore the beautiful five-hectare Harris Garden, situated on the Whiteknights campus. Staff, students and members of the public are welcome to relax and enjoy refreshments on the lawn, pose gardening questions to one of our expert horticulturalists or go on guided tours of the Garden with Giles Reynolds and Rupert Taylor from the Grounds team.
The Harris Garden's artist-in-residence, Jenny Halstead, will be displaying some her work on the day and offering an opportunity to sign up to a special art class in the Garden (which will take place in the summer). There is also a chance to make your very own ‘bee hotel' for your garden, with Duncan Coston from the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, and to take part in a creative writing workshop.
An evening of ‘stand-up economics'
Monday 30 April, 7.30pm
The University is pleased to welcome leading environmental economist from the University of Washington and self-styled 'stand-up economist', Dr Yoram Bauman as part of his 2012 'Gold Standard' world tour, for an evening of economics-related comedy.
Admission is free but spaces are limited. The event is taking place in the Minghella Building on the Whiteknights campus. To book a place contact: events@reading.ac.uk or 0118 378 4313
