The 'big questions': staff consultation on a new University Strategy
Thursday, 03 May 2012
'I would like as many staff as possible to contribute to the process so that we can jointly plot a future direction for the University'
Having spent his first three months as Vice-Chancellor listening and identifying the areas the University needs to address, Sir David Bell has now outlined a framework for a new University Strategy.
At his most recent talks to all staff, Sir David said; "It is apparent to me that our current Corporate Plan has been overtaken by events and there is a need to establish a clear direction for the university as the external environment changes.
"The time is now right to address the ‘big questions' we face as a University. In doing so, I would like as many staff as possible to contribute to the process as we flesh out the detail of the University Strategy. That way, we can jointly plot a future direction for the University."
The Vice-Chancellor would like to hear how you think we can achieve the aims of the Strategy, elaborate on the actions and suggest other ways in which we could meet our goals. What we are doing well that contributes to these objectives and what will work well in the future.
There are a number of ways in which staff can get involved:
1. Complete the feedback form on the consultation webpage - www.reading.ac.uk/universitystrategy
2. Email any comments you may have on the framework to university.strategy@reading.ac.uk
3. Send your comments in the internal mail, marked: 'University Strategy consultation', to Sir David Bell, Whiteknights House
4. Attend one of the consultation sessions outlined on the consultation webpage - www.reading.ac.uk/universitystrategy. Each session will consist of a short presentation, followed by input and questions from those attending. The sessions can be booked through Employee Self-Service or CSTD.
The consultation will close on June 30 2012, after which we will consider all responses received. These will be fed into the creation of our new University Strategy. In the autumn, we will provide general feedback on the responses given and the actions that have resulted from those responses. We will publish the new Strategy in the autumn.
Details of the framework and the ways every member of staff can get involved can be found on the ‘Hot topics' section on the left of the Staff Portal or by going straight to the consultation website - www.reading.ac.uk/universitystrategy.
