'I am really looking forward to working with the project team and other colleagues at Reading to help develop the University's presence and profile in Malaysia'
The University has appointed the first locally employed member of staff of University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM). Nandan Ramachandran joined UoRM as Senior Manager last month and is based at the new offices in Kotaraya in Johor Bahru, where he will help the University establish its presence in Malaysia, before moving to the new campus when it is complete in 2015.
Nandan's initial role is to establish the UoRM office, from where Executive Education, pre-sessional and foundation programmes will be delivered over the next three years. As the first member of staff to be wholly based in Malaysia, his remit is a broad one, ranging from student recruitment locally to raising the profile of the University in Malaysia and the surrounding region, liaison with the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia and management of the new office, which formally opens on 9 May.
Nandan has considerable experience in the education sector. He started his career with the British High Commission in Malaysia, and has also worked for a private college group, in international student recruitment and for the major education development body responsible for central Malaysia.
"Malaysia is very pro the UK education system, which is perceived to be of very high quality, but there is also lots of competition locally and relatively low level awareness of the strengths of the University of Reading in the region. I am really looking forward to working with the project team and other colleagues at Reading to help develop the University's presence and profile in Malaysia, firstly through our temporary facilities in the Kotaraya building and eventually on the permanent campus, from 2015."
