Rain did not stop our play
Tuesday, 17 July 2012
Around six hundred members of staff from all three campuses gathered together on 11 July for our special summer celebration.
At the Vice-Chancellor's invitation, all staff were given the opportunity to meet up in an informal setting to celebrate the end of another successful academic year at the University of Reading.
It was hoped that we could gather on the lawns outside the Palmer Building, but once again the rain changed plans - although not our enjoyment.
Thanks to forward planning by the Events team and colleagues in the Students' Union we were able to enjoy our Pimm's, scones and cake in the 3Sixty nightclub.
As the Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell said in his address to staff: "Although the rain prevents us being outside, being in the RUSU building on the dance floor of 3Sixty under the disco ball brings back many happy memories for a lot of us."
A huge thank you to Catering Services staff who baked over a thousand delicious mini scones and cupcakes for the occasion.
The event was such a success that it is hoped to become a regular fixture in the University calendar. Perhaps in the summer of 2013 we can get together in the sunshine!
