Discussion sessions on annual staff reviews
Monday, 30 July 2012
As a result of the feedback from the Staff Survey 2011 and the associated work on Promoting Excellence, the University is starting to consider the review arrangements for staff with a view to developing a new approach which better meets the needs of both individual staff and the University.
What did the staff survey say?
The results of the staff survey demonstrated that around 45% of those who completed the survey found the SDR / Job Chat process useful:
a) In reviewing my strengths and achievements;
b) In providing constructive feedback on areas for development; and
c) In helping me to improve/maintain my performance.
In addition to this:
50% of those who completed the survey felt that good performance is recognised and appreciated within their School/Directorate;
Whilst only 24% thought that poor performance was adequately dealt with.
What could a review process look like in the future?
As a first step in our exploration of this, we would like to provide the opportunity for staff to take part in an open discussion session to consider what this may look like.
There will be a number of sessions during August on each campus, all bookable via CSTD http://www.reading.ac.uk/internal/CSTD/programmes/cstd-programme.aspx
The sessions take place between 12.30pm and 2.00pm on the following dates:
- Friday 3 August at Whiteknights
- Wednesday 8 August at Whiteknights
- Tuesday 14 August at London Road
- Tuesday 21 August at Greenlands
- Wednesday 22 August at Whiteknights
We recognise that these are taking place during a busy vacation period where staff will be taking leave, however, many staff are here. Therefore it is important to make the most of this opportunity. Further discussion sessions will be held during the next session as we start to develop thoughts and ideas.
Tea and coffee will be made available during these sessions, however, as they are being held over the lunchtime period, please feel free to bring your lunch with you.
If you are not able to attend one of the sessions but wish to provide your thoughts you can do so to workingtogether@reading.ac.uk
We look forward to hearing from you.
