Dr Larsen and Dr Froud-Williams win international awards

Dr Bob Froud-Williams

The University is delighted to announce that two of our academics have recently been awarded internationally recognised accolades. Dr Graeme Larsen received the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Premier Research Paper Award, and Dr Bob Froud-Williams was honoured with an award from the British Crop Production Council (BCPC).

Dr Graeme Larsen, a Lecturer in Construction Management and SCME Director of Post Graduate Research Studies, attended the CIOB International Innovation and Research Awards 2012, where he received the ‘Premier Research Paper Award' for his paper entitled Understanding the early stages of the innovation diffusion process: aware, influence and communication networks.

The judges said of his paper: "An inspirational research paper that enables practitioners to rethink and understand the process of innovation. It is a fascinating piece of work with a novel approach."

The BCPC recognises contributions in academic research, pesticide regulations, and knowledge transfer to benefit crop production. Since its inception in 1985 the BCPC has presented some 50 BCPC awards and this year the University's Dr Bob Froud-Williams was one of the three recipients.

Dr Bob Froud-Williams, an Honorary Fellow from the School of Biological Sciences said, "It is a great honour and privilege to be nominated for a BCPC award. The majority of my career has been concerned with education and I feel fortunate that I have been able to advance the importance of Weed Science both at home and abroad. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the students that I have supervised and to the many colleagues within the agricultural industry with whom I have collaborated, thereby contributing to our knowledge of weeds in temperate and warm-season cropping systems."
