Update from the Vice-Chancellor on student recruitment and admissions
Tuesday, 22 January 2013
A message from the Vice-Chancellor on the organisation of our activities in the areas of student recruitment and admissions:
Over the past few months, I have been considering how best to organise our activities across the broad areas of student recruitment and admissions. In a more turbulent higher education environment, it is vital that we have effective arrangements in place to maximise our chances of attracting the best students to study here at the University of Reading.
With effect from 1 February 2013, the Student Recruitment and Outreach Office will transfer from the Student and Academic Services Directorate to the Chief Operating Officer's Group where they will be the responsibility of the Director of Marketing and Communications. Within the Student and Academic Services Directorate, the Admissions team and the Reading International Office (RIO) will be under a single Director. A title for this post will be announced in due course.
Clearly, recruitment and admissions involves many people across the University. However the central teams are organised, they need to work together very closely to ensure a seamless process for applicants. Staff in Schools are also involved and it will be essential that they too are part of our better co-ordinated arrangements.
Maintaining, and indeed increasing, our student numbers is vital for the longer term sustainability of the University. All of us have part to play and I look forward to your continuing support and hard work as we improve further our position in the future.
Sir David Bell KCB
Vice-Chancellor
