Department of Chemistry on Sky Sports 1

Friday, 01 February 2013

Filming in Chemistry

Chemistry and football sound like an unlikely match, but tonight the University's Department of Chemistry will appear on ‘Premier League Preview', a Sky Sports 1 football programme at 6.30pm and across the world (it is also repeated over the weekend).

The University was asked to help the programme's producers film some typical chemistry experiments to illustrate chemistry within a football team, to be featured on tonight's show.

Dr Elizabeth Page, Dr John Baum and two third year students, Ed Holland and Chris Bailey, spent the afternoon with a crew filming various experiments and visuals such as chemical reactions with dry ice and burning magnesium. Look out for Ed and Chris's hands (!), and a mention of the University in the end credits of the programme.
