Short video interviews with the four senior managers who co-presented at the Vice-Chancellor's talks to staff are now available. Each video is 2-3 minutes long and covers the key points made at the talks.
The Vice-Chancellor introduced the four talks with an overview of some of the key headlines for the University at this juncture:
- On the development of the University Strategy, the V-C outlined the need for the University to look medium to long term. He announced that the next stage in the Strategy's development would be available in the summer.
- He gave an overview of undergraduate admissions for 2013, announcing that overall applications were up almost 5%, with home applications up 2% and international applications over 30%. Despite strong applications again this year, conversion of these applications should remain a firm focus, he said.
- The ground breaking ceremony for the Malaysia campus takes place on 27 February and will be a high profile event in Johor Bahru to mark the exciting start of the construction process.
- The University is due to receive the Institutional Review report from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) shortly. The V-C thanked all staff involved in the review process for their hard work and announced that we would be receiving a very positive report from QAA.
- The V-C explained that the decision to leave the 1994 Group of universities was taken to allow us work with a broader range of academic partners and that we would be working hard to ensure we continued to have a strong voice in the sector, particularly relating to research.
- The V-C also highlighted the recent award of the Regius Professorship, the many recent media appearances by staff members and the high profile visits from NERC and the Department of Business Innovation and Skills as important contributions to the University's work to grow its profile and reputation.
