'My goals are to raise the profile of Security Services and to understand the needs and concerns of my fellow staff and the University's students so that we can provide a professional and responsive service'
The University is very pleased to welcome its new Security Services Manager, Dilip Amin. He joins the University following a varied career in the police force, which included a three year secondment to study for an LLB Law here at Reading.
Dilip served for 30 years as a police officer, achieving the rank of Chief Superintendent. During this period he was responsible for managing teams of 6 to 600 people and undertook a large variety of roles including Head of Community Policing (Reading and Wokingham), Commander of Reading Borough, Head of Control Rooms and Senior Information Risk Manager.
Dilip was an accredited silver commander and led an array of policing operations including firearms, public order, animal rights demonstrations, counter-terrorism, football matches, Henley Regatta and Reading Music Festival, and has vast experience in critical and major incident management and community policing.
He said: "I am very pleased to have joined the University and know that I have inherited a strong team. I am looking forward to working with them to deliver an excellent service for our customers - the University's staff and students. In the two years following my retirement from the police I qualified and worked as an executive coach, but in all honesty I missed being part of a team focused on delivering a service.
"My goals are to raise the profile of Security Services and to understand the needs and concerns of my fellow staff and the University's students so that we can provide a professional and responsive service."
Dilip has already met with many colleagues around the University, including those from Student Services, RUSU and hall wardens, but would welcome contact from members of staff and students if they would like to discuss any aspects of security services. You can reach him by email - dilip.amin@reading.ac.uk or phone - 0118 378 6967.
