University plays host to the Annual Classical Conference

The Department of Classics is currently hosting the biggest Annual Classical Conference here at the University.

More than 400 classicists and ancient historians from 4 different continents are visiting the University for the conference which ends on Saturday.

200 groundbreaking research presentations will be delivered by speakers from origins as diverse as Nigeria, Estonia and Australia on subjects ranging from voodoo in Alexandria, memory in Homer and new evidence for Rome's wars with Carthage.

The Classical Association regularly brings together academics and school teachers, with panels dedicated to issues in teaching and learning, including e-learning, children's literature, and higher university fees.

This year at Reading, the numerous coordinated panels include sessions organised by the Classical Reception Studies Network, American Philological Association, Council of University Classical Departments, Joint Association of Classical Teachers and International Network on the Legacy of Greek Political Thought. 

The conference is chaired by Dr David Carter, Senior Lecturer in Greek and Associate Dean in Social Sciences at the University. For more information about the conference please visit their website.
