Design is integral to the DNA of every public service - not just a matter of surface appearance.
Professor Sue Walker, Typography & Graphic Communication, has been invited to become a member of the Associate Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group (APDIG).
The invitation comes after Professor Walker's written evidence to the Group's second report, Restarting Britain 2: Design and Public Services. APDIG brings together researchers from universities recognised for excellent and relevant design research, recognising that information design research has much to offer government and public services through its user-centred and often collaborative methods. It also informs the presentation of complex material, in print and online.
In the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication's blog, Professor Walker says; "Typography strongly endorses the APDIG report's opening statement: 'Design is integral to the DNA of each and every public service. Design is not a matter of surface appearance."
The report also states: 'Design starts from the 'user's experience', using examples such as the redesign of a government website, or improving the client experience of arriving at a housing association office ad ways in which public services can be redesigned to improve the user's experience and save Government time and money.
The APDIG will report to a parliamentary seminar in June.
