New Professor of Ocean and Earth Observation

Professor Chris Merchant

The University is delighted to welcome Professor Chris Merchant to the Department of Meteorology.

Professor Merchant took up the post of Professor of Ocean and Earth Observation on 1 May 2013.

Professor Merchant and his research group have an international reputation in deriving sensitive measurements of Earth's changing climate from images captured by satellites circling the planet.  Their measurements add to the evidence about rates of surface temperature change round the globe, and are needed for purposes such as testing climate models.

Professor Merchant joins us as part of the University's Academic Investment Project from the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh.
