MERL Village Fete 2013
Tuesday, 28 May 2013
The University's Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) is holding its annual Village Fete on Saturday 1 June, this year with a rural crafts and traditions theme.
University staff are especially welcome to come along and perhaps enter the cake baking competition. Bring your best Victoria and/or chocolate sponge cakes to the fete on the day for a chance to be crowned the University's cake King or Queen!
Border morris side Armaleggan will be joined by the Waltham St Lawrence Silver Band to provide entertainment throughout the day, and a huge variety of activities will be on offer from traditional games and the village stocks, face painting, cheese making and free craft workshops with representatives of the Heritage Crafts Association including spoon carving and willow weaving. Local beekeepers, the Berkshire Family History Society, and representatives from the Berkshire Show will also have stalls at the Fete.
Refreshments include ice cream, cream teas, a hog roast (and sausages) with homemade apple sauce, and local beers and cider served in the beer tent.
Entry to the fete is £2.50 per adult and free for children. For more details, visit the MERL Village Fete website.
