New Reader in Ecosystem Ecology

Thursday, 13 June 2013

Dr Francis mayle

Dr Francis Mayle, Reader in Ecosystem Ecology, Geography and Environmental Science

The University is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Francis Mayle as Reader in Ecosystem Ecology, Geography and Environmental Science.

Dr Francis Mayle is a palaeo-ecologist interested in the long-term dynamics of tropical ecosystems - in particular Amazonian rainforests.

Dr Mayle studies ecosystems over centennial to multi-millennial time scales, in response to both natural environmental change (e.g. climate) and pre-Columbian (pre-1492) human land use (e.g. fire).

Dr Mayle's particular interest is the degree to which Amazonia in pre-Columbian times was a virgin wilderness or domesticated landscape.

Dr Mayle joined us on 1 June from the University of Edinburgh where he was a Lecturer in Environmental Change. Dr Mayle's appointment is part of the Academic Investment Project.
