Consultation on the revised academic year - update
Thursday, 20 June 2013
The results of the consultation on the future structure of the Academic Year have now been collated. Over 200 responses to the consultation were received and the Working Group presented a revised model to UBTL and SMB, taking into consideration much of the feedback. Comments were broadly supportive of starting and finishing the academic year earlier, which is the main driver for the proposed change. This will enhance the employability of our students and bring Reading into line with many other institutions.
The revised model will now go to Senate and Council for final determination. The model proposed takes into account consultation feedback and therefore allows for a longer spring vacation than originally suggested and the inclusion of two weeks teaching for non-finalist undergraduates.
The Working Group has collated the feedback as questions and answers with relevant comment on each point - please see the ‘hot topic' on the left of this page for more information.
