Recent Senior Appointments

Professor Julie Lovegrove has been appointed the Hugh Sinclair Chair in Human Nutrition in the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences.
Professor Lovegrove has been Professor in Metabolic Nutrition at the University since 2010. Her research looks in to how human nutrition and more recently, nutrient-gene interactions, impact on cardiovascular disease.
She was also a founder member of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition and has had a major role in establishing its research excellence.
A further five appointments have recently been made as part of the Academic Investment Project:
Dr Panos Athanasopoulos has been appointed as Reader in Multilingual Language Acquisition and Literacy. Dr Athanasopoulos joined us from the University of Newcastle on 1 June 2013 where he was Lecturer in Applied Linguistics. His research has covered aspects of bilingualism and multilingualism and he has worked on language learning and cognition in children and adults.
Professor Alexy Chernov has been appointed Associate Professor in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing. Professor Chernov is currently a Professor at the University of Bonn, Germany and will be joining us on 1 September 2013. His research focuses on Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing and in particular, problems with random parameters.
Professor Sue Grimmond was appointed Chair in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from 1 August 2013. Professor Grimmond was Professor of Physical Geography at King's College London. Her research focuses on the physical processes involved in the generation of urban climate.
Dr Donal O'Sullivan was appointed to the Chair in Crop Science from 1 April 2013. Before joining us, Professor O'Sullivan was at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, Cambridge.
Dr Joy Singarayer was appointed Associate Professor in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from 1 August 2013. Dr Singarayer was previously a Senior Lecturer in Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on past climate change, ice ages and prehistoric human impacts.
