Bus+ Helping you save money on your journey to work
Monday, 02 September 2013
Bus+ is a new scheme being offered by the University in partnership with Reading Buses, to provide staff with subsidised bus travel for commuting to work. Bus+ is a salary exchange scheme which enables you to make significant savings on the cost of an annual bus pass through tax and National Insurance savings.
The Bus+ Commuting Card costs £429 p.a. Your gross salary will be reduced by this amount over a 12 month period (£35.75 per month). Because your gross salary will be reduced, you will pay less tax and National Insurance, saving you money. A basic rate taxpayer could save over £10 per month. Your actual savings will depend upon the rate of tax you pay and whether you are a member of one of the University's pension schemes.
Don't worry if you can't get your application in by this time, as you can apply for a Commuting Card at any time throughout the year and it will be processed in the next available salary run. The card will be valid for a full calendar year.
