Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days celebrate England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

This year the University museums are opening their doors with a free programme of events as part of this national four day event.

 

Thursday 12 - Sunday 15 September 3.00pm - 4.00pm

The Museum of English Rural Life is offering behind the scenes tours of its Victorian home, including a visit to the archive store (Thursday and Friday) and object store (Saturday and Sunday).

Friday 13 September -  4.00pm Workshop - 6.00pm Talk

Bringing ancient inscriptions to Reading, the Ure Museum offers a special workshop and talk on how antiquities came to Reading. 6.00pm there will be a talk by Professor Peter Kruschwitz, head of the Department of Classics entitled: ‘Libya...Virginia Water...Reading: the mysterious journey of a Roman woman's tombstone.
