Bird-brained intellectuals: 1001 things you didn't think birds could do

Thursday, 26 September 2013

birds

Birds know far more than you might think. They make quite complex decisions and can even select and use tools. In the inaugural Cole Lecture, hosted by the School of Biological Sciences, Professor Alex Kacelnik will explain just how evolutionarily advanced these creatures are.

Professor Alex Kacelnik trained as a zoologist in Argentina, later worked in zoology and psychology departments in Oxford, Groningen and Cambridge, until returning to Oxford to set up the Behavioural Ecology Group there.

He is an international leader in the field of animal cognition, tool use, decision-making and the evolution of behaviour.

The inaugural Cole Lecture, in honour of Francis Cole (1872-1959), Reading's first professor of Zoology.
