25th Anniversary of the Beckett International Foundation: Staging Beckett Thursday 3 October
Tuesday, 01 October 2013
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Beckett International Foundation, based at the University, and a major new research project on Samuel Beckett's theatre, led by the University, we are delighted to present a very special event. All members of staff are welcome.
The Vice-Chancellor will host an ‘in conversation' evening featuring the extraordinary theatre director, Ian Rickson (recent productions include Harold Pinter's Old Times and Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem), as he explores the challenges of bringing the work of Samuel Beckett to life on stage, and the long standing connections between Beckett and Pinter.
An exhibition will be specially curated for the event to showcase items in the University's collection related to Krapp's Last Tape, and Rickson's celebrated staging of the play which starred Harold Pinter, in 2006 at the Royal Court Theatre, London.
The event will also launch the AHRC-funded Staging Beckett project, a collaboration with the University of Chester and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The project is developing the world's first comprehensive database of productions of Beckett's plays in the UK and Ireland.
