New! Free language entitlement for PGR students
Thursday, 03 October 2013
From this academic session all Postgraduate Research students will be able to take one Institution-Wide Language Programme module of their choice for free, enabling them to enhance their language skills to benefit their research.
Programme Director Dr Chiara Cirillo explains: 'We are delighted to be able to extend the language entitlement previously offered only to undergraduates. A well-known report by the British Academy highlights the threat that the lack of UK born and educated academic researchers with skills in languages other than English pose to UK's world-class research base.
'It calls for a series of measures to address the danger of research insularity and this is Reading's response to their concerns. It is a tangible demonstration of how seriously our research-intensive institution takes its role as global player'.
PRG students will need to seek approval from their Director of Postgraduate Studies, as fees for their language module will be passed on to their Schools.
The IWLP offers modules in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. For more information visit www.reading.ac.uk/iwlp or contact iwlp@reading.ac.uk
