The University is offering an exciting and unique new BSc in International Development for 2014 entry. This will provide an interdisciplinary education in core development issues while exploring issues of global concern facing the sustainability of the planet's resources, food systems and human population.
The programme builds on our century-long reputation in the study of agriculture and rural development and complements existing Masters level provision in the Graduate Institute of International Development and Applied Economics
International development is a broad subject area so this programme draws on cross-university expertise, including teaching from the Schools of Agriculture, Policy and evelopment; Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Sciences; Politics, Economics and nternational Relations; Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, and the Henley Business School.
The degree provides excellent opportunities for students to enhance their employability, both within and outside the curriculum.
On a three year programme students will be encouraged to spend four weeks on a structured field-based programme at a university in Africa or the Western Indian Ocean Region; for a four year degree students can opt for an extended industrial placement.
Formal links have been established with Egerton University in Kenya and the University of Mauritius for this purpose.
Dr Eleanor Fisher, Programme Director BSc International Development, said: "The degree combines Reading's expertise on contemporary global issues with opportunities to gain first-hand experience of overseas development thus providing a unique and exciting programme of study for undergraduates."
