Dr Simon Booth

The University is very sad to announce the sudden death of Dr Simon Booth in Taiwan last week.

Simon joined Reading from the University of Strathclyde in 1989, as a Senior Lecturer in Management, specialising in crisis management, leadership, strategy, organisational culture and business ethnics - particularly in China, Thailand, Malaysia and India.

He served as Associate Head of the School of Management, Director of Postgraduate Programmes and Co-Director of the Joint Centre for International Management and Entrepreneurship Development.

In recent years, he was Henley's Vice Dean, responsible for overseas recruitment, where he achieved significant success in raising Henley's profile in the Far East.   

Simon was the UK coordinator for the GLOBE research project and was the 2005 joint winner of the M. Scott Myers Award of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

In 2009 he was jointly awarded the American Psychological Association's Ursula Geislen Prize for the best contribution to global psychology.

He was awarded scholarships by the Social Science Research Council (UK), the International Communications Agency (USA) and the Foreign Office (UK).

Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell said: "This is very sad news. His teaching and research record speaks for itself and he played a huge role in promoting Henley across South East Asia. Our thoughts are with Simon's family and friends."

Dean of Henley Business School John Board said: "As important as his contribution to Henley, Simon was also an exceptionally nice man with whom it was a pleasure to work. We are all shocked and saddened at the news."
