CV advice
Students can drop in to the CV clinic - no need to book, they just need to bring a printed copy of their CV.
Top tips to pass on to your students:
- Research in advance - find out who is coming and look at the placement and graduate opportunities available
- Decide who you want to target and prioritise these organisations - don't be overwhelmed by the size of the fair
- Approach organisations that aren't on your target list first, to practise speaking to employers before you approach the ones you are really interested in - it can help if you are a bit nervous
- Be open minded - some companies offer a broad range of opportunities; for example engineering companies may offer opportunities in finance and marketing as well as engineering
- Think about some questions to ask the exhibitors, what do you want to know about them? But don't just ask "What do you do?", they will expect you to know that already!
- Present yourself well - maintain eye contact when speaking to employers and walk round the venue on your own, rather than with a group of friends - employers will then know you are focussed on them
