The University has entered a national competition run by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) that will reward institutions that can show they have maximised the impact of their research.
Members of BBSRC will visit the University on Friday 25 October to discuss the Excellence with Impact competition that aims to recognise institutions that can develop and successfully deliver a vision for maximising the social and economic impact of their biosciences research.
Professor Christine Williams, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, (Research and Innovation), said: "Participation in the Excellence with Impact competition will provide an important focus for developing our impact related strategy, and enhancing our actions, as part of a wider University effort in this area.
"Involvement will enable the University to ensure that maximum impact is generated from research, and create an institutional-wide culture change where every researcher understands the importance of, and the different routes to, generating impact from research efficiently, alongside capturing and recording impact.
"The University will develop a programme of activities which will, by 2016, have largely achieved these, alongside a relevant institution-wide culture change."
In spring 2016 the BBSRC will award £500,000 to the organisation that has best demonstrated the delivery of impact in its widest sense over the three years of the competition. The judges may also award a further £500,000 to highly commended runners-up.
As part of their visit to Whiteknights on Friday 25 October, the team from BBSRC along with Professor Richard Ellis, Dean of Life Sciences and Dr Anne-Marie van Doderweerd from University Research and Enterprise will give a presentation on the competition and will be able to answer any questions.
