Whiteknights Utilities Project update
Monday, 06 January 2014
Throughout last term, the University's project team and contractors made good progress on the Whiteknights Utilities Project - to install a new Energy Centre and a network of insulated pipes to carry hot water around the campus.
The project is now entering phase 2, which begins with trench digging alongside the URS building and Whiteknights House, moving towards HumSS and Palmer.
We appreciate that this term is an important time for the University with many visitors coming on to the Whiteknights campus, so colleagues in Corporate Relations and Events are working closely with the project team to ensure minimum disruption. Footpath diversions will be signposted as early and as clearly as possible and fencing will continue to be erected around all trenches.
The Energy Centre foundations are now complete and the building's steel frame is currently being erected. The Centre will contribute almost 10% of the carbon savings needed to hit our 35% target and save over £250,000 in utilities costs annually.
Please see the Hot Topic ‘Whiteknights Utilities Project' on the left hand side of the Staff Portal for more detailed information on the project phases and background, and a map of areas that are affected.
