UCU strikes - a message from Human Resources
Tuesday, 21 January 2014
The UCU has announced that it will be instructing members to take part in three two-hour strikes as follows:
- Thursday 23 January - 11.00 - 13.00
- Tuesday 28 January - 14.00 - 16.00
- Monday 10 February - 09.00 - 11.00
The University does not accept partial performance and reserves its right to make deductions from pay where breaches of contract occur.
This means that the University is not legally obliged to make payment for days on which only partial performance is rendered and is entitled to withhold the full pay due on the day of action.
However, for the purposes of the forthcoming action, the University will make a voluntary and ex-gratia payment to those on strike action equivalent to withholding only two hours pay.
This payment is without prejudice to the University's strict legal rights. The University reserves the right to deduct a full day's pay on any future occasion where partial performance occurs.
UCU's ongoing action relates to the ongoing dispute regarding the 1% 2013 pay award. The University include the pay award in December 2013 salaries, backdated to 1August.
