Academic English MOOC begins this week
Monday, 17 February 2014
Today (Monday 17 February) marks the start of our second MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) - 'A beginners' guide to writing in English for university study'.
The free online course is aimed at students whose first language is not English and who wish to study in an English-speaking country. Over four weeks, our expert teachers from the International Study and Language Institute will help participants to understand the principles of academic writing and develop the skills they need to write academic English effectively.
This course is a perfect introduction to academic writing for international students considering a pre-sessional English language course or a degree at the University of Reading or another English-speaking university.
In 2013, the first of our courses, 'Begin programming: Build your first mobile game' attracted over 10,000 students in its first 24 hours. This seven-week beginner course, teaches the basics of Java programming through the example of a simple mobile game that you can run on your computer, Android phone, or tablet. The second run of the course will start on 24 February 2014 and you can sign up now.
Our MOOCs are delivered in conjunction with FutureLearn.
