Composer and former lecturer Gustav Holst and two key Olympic figures were honoured at this year's annual Court meeting on Monday.

The University's Chancellor Sir John Madejski unveiled a special plaque to celebrate the great Gustav Holst's teaching career in our music department. The plaque will be displayed on the outside of the Great Hall on the London Road campus.

Rt Hon Hugh Robertson MP and Sir John Armitt

The Rt Hon Hugh Robertson MP, Reading graduate and Minister for Sport and the Olympics from 2010 to 2012, and Sir John Armitt, Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority who received an Honorary Degree from Reading in 2008, were both made Distinguished Fellows.

University Court consists of representatives from Council, Senate and lay members. This forum brings together individuals and organisations from outside the University, whose links with us make a positive contribution to University life.

The Court's annual meeting provides an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor to update members on new developments and plays an important role in fostering closer relationships with the wider world.
