Dean of Faculty of Science

The University is seeking to appoint a Dean of Faculty of Science following the resignation of Professor George Marston. The fixed term appointment, for up to two years, will take effect from 1 August 2014 and follows the Faculty Management Board foregoing its right - on this occasion - to proceed to an election for the role.
The Vice-Chancellor is seeking expressions of interest from staff within the Faculty of Science and across the University who are keen to develop their careers further.
The Dean of Faculty of Science will be responsible through the University Executive Board to the Council for the leadership and management of the Faculty.
The successful candidate will:
- provide academic leadership within the Faculty and elsewhere in the University;
- act as Faculty Director of Research;
- effectively line manage Heads of School and the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning within the Faculty, and work with them to implement University strategy and monitor activity;
- encourage excellence in teaching, research and innovation;
- represent and advocate for the Faculty to the University and promote the development of the Faculty, its Schools and its staff;
- explore and, as appropriate, generate activity and collaboration between Schools, Faculties and external organisations in line with the University's strategic objectives;
- provide managerial leadership within the University, including chairing and sitting on committees of the University; and
- chair the Faculty Management Board and other committees of the Faculty.
